Thoughts on Homosexuality.

Given the relatively recent changes in political atmosphere, I feel the urge to write to you about my absurdly drastic opinion.

As a man with puritans for parents, a God-fearing man, a Jesus-imitater and a Holy Bible reverer, I find that God seems to believe that homosexuality is an abomination and that is not something, especially for the decent-hearted Christian, to swallow as truth very easily. It's very easy to forget that the Bible is the bold and living word of God and that God is somewhat of a radical thinker, if I can call Him that. Jesus says Himself that He didn't come to bring peace on earth but rather a division among men by bringing a powerful and hard message, more than one tough message. So I hope I am in some small way representing God and His will when I use the next paragraph to explain my (hopefully) biblical, but mostly personal belief and speculation on the issue.

In some ways, I view homosexuality in the same regard I do alcoholism; (given it's a crude comparison) namely, I'm not sure whether or not it truly is hereditary or if one's genes predestines one's behaviors, but I do know that no man, woman or child should ever allow such an affliction to serve as a scapegoat to perform immoral acts.

As a side note before I go further, this most likely comes across as very harsh to your eyes and may very well cause some cognitive disonance to hear a loonie say that homosexuality is an affliction. If you know your Bible well, you may even be critiquing my spiritual walk with God, thinking vaguely of verses such as 'Judge not lest ye be judged.' To again quote Jesus, I would retort by saying that Jesus spoke to his disciples concerning persecution to come, saying 'Be as wise as serpents and as gentle as doves.' I've heard it said of the greek translation of verses about not being quick to judge as meaning not to condemn anyone for anything. As Paul said, in Jesus Christ there is no condemnation and we should reflect His love; that's not to say Christians are called to be passive and tolerant idiots but rather smart and kind advocates for the word of God. Again, in writing this, I hope to be expressing in some small way the words of God.

I feel that verses in the Bible such as 'Thou shalt not murder' and 'Thou shalt not commit adultery', generally agreed upon verses, that outline very basic moral principles are not disputed when discussing homosexuality nor quoted angrily by controversial, political Christian crowds. Rather, it's the nitty gritty of the law where the 600 or so laws that as a Christian I believe are the holy words of God. Verses like 'do not be drunken with wine', 'do not mark your body' and 'homosexuality is an abomination unto the Lord' trip people up. They're the same as The Ten Commandments which every human being in America has, in the least, a vague awareness of; they're the indisputable God-breathed Sciptures that the great prophet Moses proclaimed to be of the true and only God. Why then are people so lazily excusing these, if I'm not mistaken, (forgive me if I am), sinful acts?

To be homosexual is no sin as to be a sinner is not a sin; rather it is in practicing homosexuality or sin in general that we find ourselves condemned by the Law. I would equate homosexuality, though I know this isn't always the case, with sexual lust. Lust is looking at what one ought not have, defying God and eating of the forbidden fruit. Therefore, I would say it is immoral to be in unrepentant repitition of such acts. To be clear, I'm not accusing anyone whose sexual orientation falls on the wrong side of my religion of being salacious; however, it is fair for me to come to the conclusion, given the precise and bold nature of the letter of the Law that so many Americans 'claim' to believe, that referendum 74 was passed in defiance of God's will. In conclusion and in my ultimate insult to those patient enough to disagree with and yet read all of my thoughts, I believe God is against same-sex marriage; not only that but that God views homosexual relationships as disgusting; furthermore, homosexual thoughts and actions are as sexual immorality.

We are all sinners, but there is hope in Christ and Christ alone. Thank you.

If you have any questions, don't be afraid to ask. If you need anything made more clear, let me know; I'd gladly share where in the Bible I find my verses. If you want to know where I get off having opinions that are strong and absurd in a culture of tolerance, I honestly don't know.

*Verses quoted/good ones to look up are: John 3:16, Matthew 7:1, Exodus 20, Leviticus 18:22, Matthew 10:34-36, Proverbs 31:4 and 31:5, Proverbs 3:5 and 3:6, Romans 8:1, Romans 1, All of Romans and Leviticus 19:28. Thanks again for reading; I hope this got you thinking.
